prague from sinem erdemli
Apart from being a beautiful city prague has a lot more to offer than it's
architecture and scenic views.
I'm not saying I've seen all the "must-see"s or "must-eat"s. however, I have a bunch to
talk about.
Starting from the very first meal we had, the semi-czech lunch.
Being a group of five enabled us to have a variety of options served. A so-called "Happy
Salad" unique with it's distinctive "Czech cottage cheese", kind of sour. smoked. was on option.
The other was a vegeratian dish, with tofu, served with spinach boiled potatoes.
Chicken with ginger sauce and noodles was the other successful option.
The fish fillet with thyme was also a good choice.
The Czech dinner we had in a 500-seat restaurant was meat-oriented- just like the Czech
cuisine. Traditional dumplings were kind of a disappointment as they were "like
bread" but not common dumplings that you expect to get in a chinese restaurant
or as in a Turkish cuisine. However, the pork ribs were impressive- both in the
taste and the amount they served. Also the duckling was pretty
satisfying.
The first breakfast in Prague wasn't traditional, considering we went to a bagel house.
However, Bohemian Bagels offer a variety of options in terms of breakfast and
both the taste and portions are pretty fulfilling. You also have the opportunity
to make up your own omelette and get to taste really tasty ginger tea- one of my
favourites.
Before dinner, to have a pre-dinner coctail we tumbled upon a lounge called BED. Just
close to the Old Town Square. Literally, the place has no tables or chairs but
beds. U take off your shoes. Settle on the comfy beds and enjoy your well mixed
drinks.
Away form the center- crowded with tourists- lies a Pakistanese restaurant Rana. The
friendly staff- maybe because they knew us- or its just the way they are made a
dinner turn into a whole-night experience. Being an "anti-spice" and "heavy
sauce" personi frankly I must say i had really low expectations going to the
place. However, with the endless re-fill of beer, and the wonderfully tasty
Palak Paneer I guess I found my favourite dish to get me through any indian-like
cuisine. The Vegetable samoosa's, nan's and especially the hot chili's made our
dinner even more fun!
The following day, our last one started in a bookstore. Which also happens to be a
cafe-bar, that organizez special movie test nights, organizes nights to show
festival movies and new art trends. A fruit muesli with black coffee was a great
start after the long lasting dinner we had the previous day. Blueberry pancakes
were pretty tasty and impressive, as well as the eggs benedict served on bagels.
We left Globe with full stomachs, fulfilled appetites and a bag full of
books.
Having a late, fulfilling breakfast ended up skipping lunch; however the open air market
in the old town had a lot to offer us as snacks. Warm wine, with spices like
cinnamon and cloves were a great drink while wondering around in the streets
under the rain. Also, some chose to get Meade, a warm beer-wine-honey drink,
which also kept accompanied us during the sightseeing-shopping last day
tour.
Before dinner, just to experience the surprisingly cheap but tasty Czech beer drinking
culture we went to a pub actually called, The Pub, in which you sit on tables
and draw your own beer. The total amount of beer from your tables goes on the
screen both competing with the other tables in the bar, as well as others in the
sisterbars in the Czech Republic. There's also a jukebox where you can choose
what to listen, our official Prague Trip song (Bicycle by Queen) was definitely
on the list!
To end the threeday trip we went to eat an International Cuisine dinner, the Klub
Architektura where you can taste Czech specialties as well as other
international dishes. The service was disappointingly slow, as well as the small
portions however the taste was notable. The Czech specialty garlic soup was
good, as well as the grilled chicken with thyme and broccoli on the side and the
french specialty foie gras. The last night ended with pub crawling with beer and
coctails to taste and some Czech dessert like dumplings with mascarpone and
cinnamon sugar sauce.
The weather which patiently waited to rain all trip long finally cracked and we woke up to
our last day with a foggy, rainy morning. Going to the airport with rain wasn't
anything to complain as the weather in the past three days was warmer and much
drier than we expected.
To sum up, the perfectly scenic city of Prague, has much more to offer than its pretty
face.
